The main goal of the MasterClass, which focused on raising awareness about chronic kidney disease (CKD), early diagnosis, complications, and new therapeutic approaches, was to train young talented renal fellows on CKD. CKD is a silent and highly prevalent non-communicable disease (NCD) that, according to the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study, was projected to become the fifth leading cause of death worldwide by 2040. The MasterClass aimed to increase the appeal of a career in nephrology by fostering a community of motivated nephrologists who have expertise in CKD and are willing to spread awareness about the importance of being a nephrologist among other trainees. To achieve this, the project utilized modern and cutting-edge digital communication technologies such as a TV studio, news, and talk-show format, along with an online platform similar to Netflix, which served as the project’s main hub. Additionally, three live streaming events were held in 2022, culminating in a final in-person event on March 17/18, 2023, at Cascina Triulza, MIND, Milan, Italy.
